We told him that he is still our Superman and thanked him for taking the time to take a picture and sign an autograph for every single fan."
Another fan who attended the premiere also tweeted about their encounter with Cavill, saying, "Amazing meeting Henry Cavill today at The Witcher premiere. Just 1 day after the role was recast, I got to tell him that he is still our Superman, and he said aww thank you. What a moment, and he was super nice too! Thank you, sir."
The announcement of the new casting choice led to a surge of support for Cavill on social media, with fans demanding his return as Superman. One fan passionately tweeted, "#BringBackHenryCavill #BringBackZackSnyder The only Superman as far as I'm concerned."
While some fans expressed their well wishes for David Corenswet, the new Superman actor, they firmly stated that Henry Cavill will always be their favorite. "I wish David Corenswet the best of luck, but for me, Superman is and always will be Henry Cavill," read one tweet. Fans also resorted to using memes to showcase their love and support for Cavill as the beloved superhero.
It's worth noting that Henry Cavill had previously announced on Instagram that he would not be returning as Superman. His statement revealed disappointment, as he mentioned being instructed by the studio to announce his return back in October, only to later receive the news of his exit. This turn of events came as a surprise to fans, especially since Cavill had previously posted a video confirming his return as Superman.
"I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it's sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn't the easiest, but that's life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes," he wrote.
"For those who have been by my side through the years... we can mourn for a but then we must remember... Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It's been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards," he added.
