Jason Schwartzman has joined the cast of The Hunger Games prequel - The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. He will be playing Lucretius 'Lucky' Flickerman, the host of the competition.

Similar to the previous Hunger Games movies, the prequel is also set in a dystopian society and follows the life of a young Coriolanus Snow who goes on to become the President. The book showed his younger years before becoming the typical tyrannical ruler of Panem.

In the prequel, Snow is chosen to be a member of the 10th Hunger Games. Production house Lionsgate released a logline introducing 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow as the last hope of his family, a once-proud family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol.

And Schwartzman is hosting the televised event in which teenagers from all districts are chosen to fight to the death. Lucky is also the ancestor of Caesar Flickerman, who would become the voice of Panem in the original trilogy.

The official page of the movie announced the news on Instagram with a photo of Schwartzman and captioned it "a legacy begins". The photo also revealed the first look of the character.

Francis Lawrence is returning to direct the prequel movie. The Austrian-born American filmmaker directed three of the four The Hunger Games films. Michael Lesslie has worked on the screenplay with inputs from author Suzanne Collins and Catching Fire writer Michael Arndt.

Tom Blythe is playing the young Coriolanus Snow and Hunter Schafer is playing his cousin and confidante Tigris Snow. Josh Andres Rivera has been cast as Sejanus Plinth, mentor to the tributes from District 2 and close friend to Snow. Rachel Zegler is playing Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from District 12. Jerome Lance, Ashley Liao, Aamer Husain, and Hiroki Berrecloth are also part of the cast.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will hit the screens on November 17, 2023.
