Javed Akhtar files defamation suit against actor Kangana Ranaut

Mumbai: Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar has filed a defamation suit against controversial actor Kangana Ranaut for remarks made against him in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

According to the complaint filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Andheri, Kangana gave an interview to Republic TV in which she alleged that director Mahesh Bhatt and Javed Akhtar are part of a 'mafia' which runs the Bollywood.

The lyricist complained before the court that the interview, watched by millions of people, is damaging his reputation.

The court will be hearing the case on December 3.

Kangana has been at the center of controversies and several cases have been filed against her for remarks made on social media platforms. Courts in Maharashtra and Karnataka had ordered to register FIR on complaints against her posts which were allegedly promoting communal divide.
