Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif recently delved into the ongoing discourse surrounding gender pay disparity within the Indian film industry.

In an interview with Film Companion while promoting her forthcoming film "Merry Christmas," the actress acknowledged the complexity of the issue, describing it as a "really tricky topic."

When prompted about the progress made in reducing the pay gap between male and female actors over the past two decades, Katrina Kaif candidly responded, "No. That's the only simple answer to that. In a word."

Kaif elaborated further, acknowledging the debate around pay disparities based on the box office success of films led by male versus female protagonists. She mentioned hearing arguments questioning equal pay for actresses due to differences in the box office performance of male and female-led movies, highlighting the contentious nature of this discussion.

Addressing the complexity of filmmaking and the various elements contributing to a movie's success, Kaif compared it to determining the crucial ingredients in a recipe. She expressed her personal belief in the importance of witnessing more equality in the industry.

Regarding her perspective on money and success, the actress emphasised the significance of dedicating oneself sincerely to their craft rather than prioritising financial gains. Kaif stressed that focusing solely on financial success might hinder artistic growth.

In her upcoming film "Merry Christmas," Katrina Kaif will star alongside Vijay Sethupathi in a thriller directed by Sriram Raghavan. Scheduled for release on January 12, the film has been shot in Hindi and Tamil.
