Mumbai: Dhobi Ghat-fame director Kiran Rao is all set to make her return to filmmaking. Her upcoming feature film 'Laapataa Ladies' is about two young brides who get lost on a train.

The story is set in 2001, in rural India. The first teaser of the film will be released in theatres on August 11, along with Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha.

The main cast of Laapataa Ladies includes Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan, and Chhaya Kadam. Two new actresses will be playing the missing brides. Their names are being kept under the wrap.

The film is being jointly produced by Aamir khan and Kiran Rao. The script is based on a story by Biplab Goswami. The screenplay & dialogue is written by Sneha Desai. Additional dialogues are written by Divyanidhi Sharma.

Kiran Rao's career started as an assistant director in Lagaan directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. She later assisted him on Swades as well. The Bengaluru-born became the second assistant director with Mira Nair on her indie hit Monsoon Wedding. In 2011, Rao scripted and directed the film Dhobi Ghat which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and went on to be longlisted for BAFTA Awards.

Dhobi Ghat received positive reviews from critics for showing the city unforgettable glimpses. It was also called one of the best representations of Mumbai and praised for making the city the centre of attention.
