Madam sir is not a sexist term, says Shefali Shah

Delhi Crime actress Shefali Shah said the debate about the term 'madam sir' has been around since season one but in the show, it is not meant to be sexist. She added that the term comes from love and respect.
In the investigative show, Shefali Shah plays DCP Vartika Chaturvedi who leads a team of police officers. Her co-workers refer to her as 'madam sir'.
Speaking to Pinkvilla, Shah said: "It doesn't matter what they call me as long as I get the job done." She added that a lot of debate and conversation happen around it.
The actress said she is not here to correct people's points of view which are not affecting her job and society. "I am not going to go to every constable in the cop station and correct them." The team of the mind that the term 'madam sir' is endearing and it is about "respect and power".
"Maybe the word itself is strange. But, it always comes from someone who is referring to Vartika. So, the intention is respect," said the seasoned artist.
The crime drama written and directed by Richie Mehta is streaming on Netflix. The first season focused on the aftermath of the 2012 Delhi gang rape. The second, which premiered on August 26, is about the Chaddi Baniyan Gang.
The first season of the show created history by winning the title of Outstanding Drama Series at the International Emmy Awards in 2020. Delhi Crime is the first Indian series to win this award.
The show also stars Rasika Dugal, Adil Hussain, Aakash Dahiya, and Rajesh Tailang.
