After sweeping 4 National Awards and 2 Kerala State Film Awards, 'Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea' is set to finally hit the silver screen on May 13. The film will have an Eid box office clash with Salman Khan's 'Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai' and John Abraham's 'Satyamev Jayate 2'.

'Marakkar' is based on the real-life story of Kunjali Marakkar, a naval captain in the service of the Zamorin of Calicut (Kozhikode) who rallied an army to battle a Portuguese invasion at sea. Mohanlal essays the titular role of Marakkar while Pranav Mohanlal will essay the younger version of the character. The film also stars Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Arjun Sarja, Sunil Shetty, Prabhudeva and Prabhu.

'Marakkar' has so far managed to bag the National Film Award for the 'Best Feature Film', 'Best Special Effects' and 'Best Costume Design' awards as well as a State Film Award in 'Best Dubbing Artist' for actor Vineeth.
