Not everyone should be allowed to vote says Vijay Devarakonda

Actor Vijay Devarakonda's remarks on democracy and voting have stirred up controversy on Friday with social media users slamming him for his stance on voting rights.

"I don't think everyone should be allowed to vote," the Telungu actor can be seen saying in an interview to Film Companion. Comparing democracy to an aeroplane, Devarakonda asserted that it would not be possible to let the whims of the passengers dictate how the plane should be flown.

"Should we let the 300 people on the plane decide to vote on who should fly the plane?" the actor asked, going on to say that only experienced and viable candidates should be preferred. The actor can also be heard saying that he would be a dictator if he had the choice since that is one of the best ways to make a change in society.

The video which has now gone viral, is a deleted snippet from an earlier interview hosted by Anupama Chopra.
