Sudha Kongara's 'Soorarai Pottru' clears the first round in the Oscar race. The movie, starring Surya and Aparna Balamurali in the lead, is contesting for best picture, best actor male and female, and best director in the Oscars.
'Soorarai Pottru' became one of the 366 films which cleared the first round. Rajsekar Pandian, the co-producer of the film, revealed the news.
Given the pandemic, the Oscars are to be conducted online, and the jury watched the film online as well.
The movie, which narrated Air Deccan airlines company owner Captain Gopinath's story, was released on Amazon Prime. Malayalam actor Urvasi also did a pivotal role in the film.
