After being rejected by the regional censor board for being 'anti-national', the Siddharth Shiva directed 'Varthamanam' has finally got the go-ahead for screening from the Delhi Central Censor Board. The decision was announced by Siddharth Shiva and Aryadan Shoukath in a press conference in Kochi.

The film is now slated for a February release and has not suffered from scene cuts. Five seconds of dialogue has been muted.

Alleging that censor board member and BJP leader Advocate V Sandeep Kumar had rejected the film on spurious grounds, the makers hailed the decision of the Delhi board as a victory for film lovers.

Earlier, Shoukath had posted a tweet of Adv. Kumar in which the latter termed the film anti-national and opposed it "because Arydan Shoukath was its scriptwriter and producer".

The film is based on the controversial JNU agitations which happened on January 5, 2020. Parvathy plays a research student who goes to Delhi to do research at the university.
