Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 surpasses KGF 2's box office collection, aims for Baahubali 2's record

Mumbai: Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel's latest film, Gadar 2, has taken the box office by storm, shattering recent records along the way.

Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh recently shared that the movie's earnings have surpassed the total collection of KGF 2. The film's next ambitious goal is to surpass the box office collection of the iconic blockbuster, Baahubali 2. Impressively, Gadar 2 has also outperformed Aamir Khan's Dangal. As it enters its third week, Gadar 2 continues to amass impressive numbers, raking in Rs 7.10 crore on Friday and a substantial Rs 13.75 crore on Saturday, reaching a cumulative total of Rs 439.95 crore so far.

In a tweet, Taran Adarsh said, "CROSSES ‘KGF 2', NEXT ‘BAAHUBALI 2'… After crossing lifetime biz of #Dangal, #Gadar2 overtakes #KGF2 #Hindi… #Gadar2 is now THIRD HIGHEST GROSSING #Hindi film in #India… Continues to smash #BO records at mass sectors… [Week 3] Fri 7.10 cr, Sat 13.75 cr. Gadar 2 faced tough competition from Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi's movie, OMG 2, which also released on August 11th.

Despite both films hitting the big screen on the same day, Gadar 2 emerged as the audience favorite, achieving remarkable success. On the other hand, OMG 2 also performed reasonably well at the box office. According to Taran Adarsh, the film exhibited "strong legs" in its second week, collecting Rs 41.37 crore, contributing to a total collection of Rs 126.42 crore thus far.

He explained, "#OMG2 displays STRONG LEGS in Week 2… A substantial chunk of its biz has come from multiplexes of major centres… A creditable total, considering it faced the onslaught of a #Typhoon called #Gadar2… [Week 2] Fri 6.03 cr, Sat 10.53 cr, Sun 12.06 cr, Mon 3.70 cr, Tue 3.25 cr, Wed 3 cr, Thu 2.80 cr. In terms of critical reception, Gadar 2 has garnered mixed reviews.

Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV said, "The strident and exhausting Gadar 2, set in the year of Bangladesh's war of liberation, sends intrepid truck driver Tara Singh back into Pakistan to rescue his son from the clutches of a villainous Pakistani general who is foresworn to wiping India off the face of the earth...Gadar 2 is strictly for three categories of people: Sunny Deol fans, those that miss the unbridled excesses of Bollywood of yore, and those that believe that "hate thy neighbour" is an axiom worth cheering for in a movie theatre. The film has enough to please them all - and then some."

Apart from Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, the film also features Utkarsh Sharma and Simrat Kaur in significant roles.
