Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has decided to remove the 50% cap on theatre occupancy placed as part of pandemic restrictions. The move came just after actor Vijay along with several theatre owners met Chief Minister A.K Palaniswamy to request withdrawal of the restriction.

Vijay's upcoming big budget 'Master' will hit screens on January 13th. The move to up theatre occupancy has been seen as a blessing for the struggling theatre industry.

"Now, therefore the government hereby permits to increase the seating capacity of cinemas/theatres/multiplexes from existing 50 per cent to 100 per cent by following the Standard Operating Procedure issued already," said the Tamil Nadu government in its later order as quoted by the New Indian Express.
