In the original video, there was a scene in which Swift is stepping on a weighing scale that reads 'fat'. It now shows her anti-hero clone looking at her with disappointment.
Variety confirmed that the music video on Apple Music has the edited version. But, the video on YouTube still has the scene displaying the term 'fat'. It is speculated that the removal of these frames is due to the online debate over the scene. Some claimed the scene is anti-fat and has negative connotations.
Taylor Swift has written and directed the video. She wrote on Instagram that the content of the song and its video is a reflection of her own "nightmare scenarios" and "intrusive thoughts". The visual treatment of the video matches the song's introspective and analytical lyrics. It includes lines like "Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby / And I'm a monster on the hill."
The American singer-songwriter has earlier talked about struggling with an eating disorder.
