London: The Rolling Stones are preparing to unveil "Hackney Diamonds," their first studio album of new music since 2005.

This announcement comes in the wake of the passing of their drummer, Charlie Watts.

"Hackney Diamonds" will mark the English group's return to original material and will be introduced at a launch event in East London. The album's title alludes to English slang, referring to the fragments of glass left strewn on the ground after smash-and-grab robberies. This name is also a nod to the historically working-class neighbourhood of Hackney in East London.

US talk show host Jimmy Fallon is set to host the album's launch event at the Hackney Empire theatre. He will engage in a conversation with Mick Jagger, 80, Keith Richards, 79, and Ronnie Wood, 76, reported AFP.

This album follows their 2016 release, "Blue & Lonesome," which consisted of blues covers. The Stones have offered a sneak peek of the album's release through a playful advertisement in the local Hackney Gazette newspaper. This cryptic ad playfully referenced some of the band's iconic songs, such as "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," "Gimme Shelter," and "Shattered." It also announced the opening of a new store on Mare Street in September 2023.

Clues in the ad hinted that it wasn't a genuine glass repair business, including a miniaturised version of the band's famous lips logo dotting the letter "i." The ad also stated that the firm was established in 1962, coinciding with the band's formation year.

A corresponding website from the ad links to the Stones' record label, Universal Music Group, which manages the band's catalogue.

The official unveiling of "Hackney Diamonds" is scheduled for 2:30 pm (1330 GMT) and will be livestreamed on YouTube. The band expressed their intention to share this "truly global moment" with fans worldwide.

Last year, the Rolling Stones embarked on their 60th-anniversary tour across Europe, with performances in cities like Madrid, Milan, and Munich, along with a show at the British Summer Time (BST) festival in London. Drummer Steve Jordan joined them on tour following the passing of Watts in 2021.
