Pulitzer-winning novel The Underground Railroad to premier digitally as series on May 14

Los Angeles: Colson Whitehead's Pulitzer Prize winning novel, 'The Underground Railroad' is all set to premier on Amazon Prime Video on May 14 as 10-episode limited series. The series is directed by Academy Award-winner Barry Jenkins.

Amazon shared the news on social media and also unveiled a teaser of the show.

Whitehead's novel imagines an alternate history and narrates the story of Cora and Caesar, who are slaves in 19th century America. The story narrates how the duo tries to escape from their Georgia plantation by following an underground railroad.

The series stars Thuso Mbedu, Chase W. Dillon and Joel Edgerton. Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, Sheila Atim, Amber Gray, Peter De Jersey, Chukwudi Iwuji, Damon Herriman, Lily Rabe, Irone Singleton, Mychal-Bella Bowman, Marcus "MJ" Gladney, Jr., Will Poulter and Peter Mullan.

Jenkins, who is best known for making critically-acclaimed and award-winning features 'Moonlight' and 'If Beale Street Could Talk' serves as the showrunner on the series which he has executive produced alongside Adele Romanski, Mark Ceryak, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Brad Pitt, Richard Heus, Jacqueline Hoyt and Whitehead.

"The Underground Railroad" is a production of Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment, Pastel and Big Indie with Amazon Studios.
