The ice bucket challenge was a rage all over the world with celebrities carrying out the act, posting their videos online and challenging others in a set time frame to perform the activity.

Also known as ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, the activity involves dumping a bucket of ice water on one's head to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to research. The phenomenon has gone viral over the social media wit timelines and news feeds flooded with such posts.

The challenge even had South Indian actors taking part in it. But no Malayalam actor has taken up the challenge. Instead the Mollywood is doing things differently. Malayalam actor, Fahadh Faasil recently declared on his social networking page that he was taking up the My Tree Challenge instead, where one plants a tree and challenges others to do the same.

The My Tree Challenge is an online eco revolution kick-started by two environment lovers, Abdul Manaf, an entrepreneur, and Imthias Kadeer, a travel photographer. Fahadh had challenged Mammootty and Mohanlal to take up the tree challenge. Mammootty has not only taken up the challenge, but also posted online a picture of himself planting a tree requesting all his friends in Facebook and the film industry to take up the challenge.

Mammooty also added that My Tree challenge was a motto which should be followed by all so as to save nature for the present as well as the coming generation. He also has challenged the actors Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay and Suriya.

The campaign is expected to create an awareness about the importance of going green and draw public support along with popularity and not pass as a fleeting fancy as the ice bucket challenge.
