Bhubaneshwar: They were mid-sea when suddenly things went wrong on Thursday.

The 10 fishermen, sailing off the APJ Abdul Kamal Island along the Odisha coast, had a miraculous escape when fire broke out on their fishing vessel.

The vessel was near the wheelers' island when the flames started raging up, according to a report in India Today.

The odds would have been against them if there was no friendly boat on the sea at the time.

Luckily, a fishing vessel was just in close quarters sailing and it came to the rescue of the fishermen.

Flames began engulfing the vessel when the fishermen of Dosinga village in Dhamra area of Odisha's Bhadrak district were working for day's catch.

A shocked men quickly placed distress call to the coast guard.

Officials rushed to the spot joining hands with others, rescuing the fishermen and brought back them safely.

The flame reportedly came from near the engine. It is yet to know how fire broke out on the vessel and a probe is underway.
