14-yr-old Dalit girl gang-raped, murdered: 2 arrested in UP

Mathura/UP: Uttar Pradesh police took two men to custody in an incident of a 14-year-old Dalit girl getting gang-raped and strangled to death. The grievous death happened in the Mahavan Police Station area of Mathura district in the state, PTI reported.
Police said that the girl, with her nine-year-old sister, went to the forest area near the house to relieve herself around 8:30 pm Friday evening. Three men caught them and gang-raped the elder one before strangling her to death. The younger girl managed to escape from their attackers and told her family about what had happened.
The family, with more villagers, set out in search of the elder girl and apprehended two men.
Superintendent of Police Rural Trigun Bisen, who visited the spot, pacified the agitated villagers and took Deshraj and Yogendra, the two men caught by the villagers, into custody.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Alok Singh said prima facie, it appears that the girl was killed after rape.
The third man, Sachin, is on the run while police are carrying out raids in search of him. Police said that an FIR had been registered, and they have started an investigation into the matter.
