New Delhi: India reported 1,68,912 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 1,35,27,717 , the health ministry data said on Monday. With this, India has once again taken its spot as the second-worst hit nation in terms of infections after the US.

As many as 904 deaths were reported taking the total Covid related deaths in the country to 1,70,179 so far.

A total of 75,086 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries to 1,21,56,529 with a recovery rate of 90.44 per cent.

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state ,followed by the southern states of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Maharashtra is likely to take a call on announcing a complete lockdown this week, as the state recorded 63,294 new cases and 349 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Delhi is also witnessing a grim situation with the highest single-day spike with 10,774 new COVID-19 cases and 48 deaths being reported. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is to hold a key meeting today to take stock of the situation.

With over 29.33 lakh vaccine doses administered in the last 24 hours, the country has administered over 10.45 crore doses so far.

As the country is facing vaccine shortage due to a record surge in Covid -19 infections, the union government has banned the export of anti-viral drug Remdesivir and its active pharmaceutical ingredients on Sunday.
