Chennai: Six people have been arrested in Tamil Nadu for allegedly assaulting, stripping, robbing and urinating on two Scheduled Caste men in Tirunelveil district, The Indian Express reported today.

The men aged 21, and 19 were returning from taking a bath in Thamirabarani River on Monday when some intoxicated men threatened them with knives demanding money.

The two men were attacked when they told the gang that there was no money on them.

However, the scheduled caste men had to call their relative to transfer Rs 5,000 digitally to the gang, the report said.

When the gang discovered the two men belonged to the Scheduled Caste community, they allegedly assaulted, stripped and urinated on them, according to the report.

They also alleged that the gang snatched their phones and went on torturing them till 1 am.

The two men, who eventually escaped and related their story to their family, were later admitted to the Tirunelveli Government Hospital with serious injuries.

The Thachanallur police arrested Ponmani, 25, Nallamuthu, 21, Aayiram, 19, Ramar, 22, Siva, 22 and Lakshmanan, 20 under under sections of the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

All of them belong to a Most Backward Classes community, according to the report.
