A poor mother in Bengal poisons three children, attempt suicide

Kolkata: Poverty has driven a mother in the state to poison her three children, before attempting suicide on Friday night.
Two daughters Hasi Khatun (13) and Khushi Khatun (10) died, while Serina Bibi and her son Irfan Sheikh (7) are in critical condition in a hospital.
The incident took place at Kalinagar village in West Bengal's Birbhum.
The father of the three children is known to be working abroad.
Serina Bibi frequently complained about her husband not sending home money for seven months, neigbours said.
She was unable to make both ends meet, as well as supporting the children.
She frequently quarreled with her husband over phone. She had an argument with her husband on Friday night.
Afterwards, late into the night Serina Bibi first poisoned her children with pesticides, before consuming it herself.
On Saturday morning, hearing a groaning the neighbours broke open the door.
They found the two daughter already dead and Serina Bibi and her son, Irfan Sheikh (7) were immediately removed to Burdwan Medical College & Hospital.
Their condition continues to remain critical.
