New Delhi: The BJP alleged that Delhi's AAP government is siphoning money off of the welfare scheme meant for construction workers who are temporarily jobless due to the air pollution-related bans. BJP's national spokesperson Sambit Patra said the Kejriwal government is registering "bogus" construction workers for this purpose.

Speaking in a joint conference with MP Manoj Tiwari, he added that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's intent and integrity are polluted. Patra also called the supposed scheme "the biggest corruption case in India as far as construction workers are concerned." He hinted that Rs 3,000 crore is being disbursed among "fake" workers.

According to the BJP, three NGOs working for construction workers have alleged massive corruption in registration through proxies. Patra further said over 13 lakh construction workers registered under the Delhi government's labour department between 2006 and 2021. Over 9 lakh of these were between 2018 and 2021.

"Investigation revealed that 2 lakh were fake registrations. 65,000 workers had the same mobile numbers. 15,700 had the same address in Delhi. And 4,370 had the same permanent address. However, none of these people are connected to each other," added the BJP leader.
