After Delhi, 7 Ahmedabad schools get bomb threat emails

New Delhi: Seven schools in Ahmedabad received bomb threats via mail from servers with Russian IP addresses, NDTV reported, citing sources.

Following the threat, teams of police officers and bomb disposal squad were deployed to run searches through various buildings. However, no suspicious material has been recovered yet, police informed.

The schools that received bomb threat emails include Amrita Vidyalayam, Kendriya Vidyalaya ONGC (Chandkheda), Army School (Shahibagh), Anand Niketan and DPS (Bopal).

The schools here face bomb threats when Gujarat goes to polls on Tuesday, the third phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state, Gujarat, has 28 Lok Sabha seats.

Last week, 151 schools in the National Capital Region, including Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Greater Noida, were forced to evacuate students and staff. Some of the schools received repeated emails about bombs on their premises.

After the Delhi schools faced bomb threats, a massive security operation was launched in response. The emails here also originated from a Russian domain and were sent from sawariim@mail.ru.

According to officials, those who sent the emails must have masked their IP address. They must have used a combination of a VPN (virtual private network) and the dark web. The dark web is an encrypted platform that allows individuals to hide their identity and location.

Officials also doubt that there is a deeper conspiracy plotted by terrorists to disrupt the ongoing elections. "Swaariim" is an Arabic meaning' clashing of swords', and is associated with Islamic State terror propaganda. This raises concerns, NDTV reported.

However, the Home Ministry has said that there is no concern about alarms.
