Aligarh: In an incident at the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) office of Aligarh Kotwali Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, a woman was accidentally shot in the head by a police officer during passport verification.

The disturbing CCTV footage of the incident circulated on social media, capturing the moment when a routine procedure turned into a nightmare.

The video shows the woman, accompanied by a man, seated at the police station as part of the passport verification process. A police officer, later identified as sub-inspector Manoj Sharma, was handed a pistol to load.

In a tragic turn of events, a bullet was unexpectedly discharged, striking the woman's head. The victim was promptly rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College for urgent medical attention.

Law enforcement officials, including the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and other officers, swiftly arrived at the medical centre to inquire about the victim's condition and oversee the ongoing treatment. Sub-inspector Sharma reportedly fled the scene after the accidental shooting.

Authorities are actively pursuing legal measures, including the immediate suspension of the accused inspector. The motive behind the accidental firing remains unknown, with the primary focus on ensuring the victim receives the necessary medical care.

According to reports, a family member has claimed that a dispute related to money regarding the passport verification work may have been a contributing factor to the unfortunate incident.
