Amit Shah hits back at Priyanka Gandhi over Karnataka sex scandal

Guwahati: Union Minister Amit Shah asked the Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra why the Congress government in Karnataka not taking any action over the obscene clips allegedly showing JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna sexually assaulting several women.

Prajwal Revanna, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, is an NDA candidate for Hassan constituency.

Shah told reporters that the BJP’s stand on the issue aligns with the "matrushakti" (mothers or women) of the country, NDTV reported.

"The BJP's stand is clear that we stand with the 'matrushakti' of the country. I want to ask Congress, whose government is there? The government is of Congress Party. Why they have not taken any action till now? We do not have to take action on this as this is a law and order issue of the state, state government has to take action on it," he was quoted as saying.

Favouring probe in the case, Shah said: "It is very serious, we cannot tolerate it. We want to ask Congress that despite being in power, why hasn't the government acted yet? Priyankaji should ask their Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister,".

Shah responded after Priyanka Gandhi earlier criticised PM Modi over the sex scandal involving the JD(S) leader.

Prajwal, a sitting MP from Karnataka's Hassan constituency, denied allegations saying videos are doctored.

The videos surfaced on Saturday, a day after his constituency voted and he left for Germany on Sunday.

Karnataka government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said on Monday that the SIT will ask Prajwal Revanna to return to India.
