Anand Mahindra offers jobs to retiring "Agniveers"

New Delhi: India's leading industrialist Anand Mahindra stepped in, amid raging protests against "Agnipath', offering employment to youths trained under the government's short term military recruitment scheme.

Mahindra with a huge fan following expressed sadness at the violence saying discipline and skills of Agniveers would make them "eminently employable", according to NDTV.

He said in a tweet that Mahindra group would welcome the opportunity to recruit people trained under the scheme.

Responding to a user's question about positions to which Mahidra to hire Agniveers, he said Agniveers have large potential for employment in corporate sector.

Getting trained in leadership and teamwork alongside their physical fitness, agniveers could offer "market-ready" professionals to works ranging from administration to supply chain management, according to him.

Since the scheme was announced, massive protests have reported across several states with youths taking to streets violently.

The scheme recruits youngsters within the age bracket of 17.5 to 21 years for four years.

Completing the four years, 75 percent of recruits will leave with a severance pay of Rs 12 lakh.

However a 15 percent will continue serve a 15-year tenure, reports say.

But protesters worry over uncertainty after leaving the military, but many who support the scheme argue the short-term service could make soldiers "risk averse", according to the report.

Even in the face of raging protests, the government appears to be steadfast in rolling out the scheme.
