New Delhi: AAP politician and Delhi Minister Atishi questioned whether the Election Commission (EC) was a "subsidiary organisation" of the BJP just hours after the EC sent her a show-cause notice on Friday.

In response to her statements that the BJP had approached her and given her the option of joining the party or being the subject of an Enforcement Directorate inquiry within 30 days, the EC issued a notice, the New Indian Express reported.

Atishi claimed at a press conference that the BJP had leaked the notice to the public an hour before the EC had emailed it to her.

"When the Income Tax Department freezes the bank accounts of Congress, does the Election Commission send a notice to the Income Tax Department? , " she asked.

She questioned whether the Election Commission is a "subsidiary organisation" of the BJP.

Atishi promised to respond to the notification and remind the Election Commission of its responsibility to maintain impartiality and objectivity when holding free and fair elections across the nation.

The poll panel asked that Atishi provide evidence to support her claim that the BJP approached her about joining the party in its notice. In opposition to Atishi's April 2 allegation, the BJP moved the poll commission a day earlier.
