Basavaraj Bommai +ve that BJP will rule again with a single majority

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basvaraj Bommai claimed that there would be a single majority for the BJP, unlike exit poll predictions that Congress and BJP will have a close contest and there might be a hung house after the regional Janata Dal (Secular) might get another chance to play the kingmaker, NDTV reported.
According to NDTV, most of the exit polls gave a slight edge to the Congress.
Bommai confidently stated that BJP has clear information that the party will retain power in the state with a hundred per cent majority. The voter turnout in the state, where polling was on Wednesday, was 66 per cent, which was comparatively high from previous trends.
Bommai said that exit polls are not hundred per cent correct and there will be a 5 per cent plus or minus difference. It could make a difference, he said.
On a question of whether the Congress will benefit from high voter turnout, Mr Bommai said it is the other way round.
According to him, the higher voter turnout will not help Congress but BJP. He claimed that the track record is that higher voter turnout always favoured BJP. The higher turnout this time means many people who live in urban areas have cast their votes, and that is a positive sign for his party.
Further, he denied speculations that there are backchannel talks going on with JD(S) in case of a hung house. Any talks about “resort politics” is a figment of the media’s imagination, he said.
