Patna: Bihar CM Nitish Yadav on Wednesday favoured reserving 33% seats for girls in both medical and engineering colleges. While examining presentations by departments of health and science and technology about setting up medical and engineering universities in the state, Kumar noted that it would facilitate better management, students won't feel compelled to migrate out of state, and added that one-third seats must be reserved for girls.

"This would be a unique endeavour and go a long way in ensuring a higher enrolment of girls in these technical institutes of higher learning. Girls will, thus, also feel encouraged to take more interest in pursuing such courses", Kumar said.

Kumar had earlier passed several schemes such as free bicycles and uniforms for school-going girls and reservation for women in panchayats.

Deputy Chief Minister Renu Devi, Health Minister Mangal Pandey, and Minister for Science and Technology Sumit Singh also attended the video conference.
