Khandwa: A BJP MLA in Madhya Pradesh has said that the cause of the increasing accidents in his constituency was good roads. He was answering reporters' queries on why the surge in accidents in the area, NDTV reported.

When lawmaker Narayan Patel from Mandhana assembly constituency of Kandhwa district was asked whether bad roads lead to lesser accidents, he attempted to explain his statement that good roads provide better mobility and motor riders ride their mobile at high speed, thus causing more accidents. He added that some drivers drink and drive, which adds up to the numbers.

Journalists asked him about rising accidents after there was a rise in complaints over bad roads in the state. In the past year, the Kandwa district alone witnessed four major accidents, NDTV writes.

In 2017, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan claimed that roads in Madhya Pradesh are better than roads in the US. He was on tour in the country. In 2018, he repeated the claim at a public meeting too.
