Bengaluru: During his election campaign, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, ST Somashekar, faced trouble after he offered voters a biryani feast, which led to a complaint being filed against him for attempting to lure voters, according to a report published in The News Minute.

The complaint, alleging a violation of the election Model Code of Conduct (MCC), resulted in a police complaint against the BJP MLA. The incident was caught on video, which showed the Minister distributing biryani to the public and urging them to partake in it.

AP Ranganath, the state legal unit president of Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)), lodged a complaint with the police, resulting in the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against ST Somashekar on Wednesday evening for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during his campaign on April 9.

The campaign was held near Kabbalamma temple in Doddipalaya at Kengeri for the upcoming Karnataka elections, where Somashekar, the BJP candidate for Yeshwanthpur constituency, was seen urging people to partake in the biryani that was being provided at the event.

Meanwhile, a case was filed against Srinivasa Reddy, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for BTM layout, for allegedly violating election rules by bringing 14 vehicles, along with party symbol flags, t-shirts, and caps, while filing his nomination papers. The head of the flying squad, Kuber Naik, seized the items and filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Reddy at the Adugodi police station.

Several incidents of recovering unaccounted cash have also been reported in the state. On April 13, Rs 18 lakh was recovered at Basavanagudi near Patalamma check post. In another instance, Rs 36.20 lakh was discovered in a car near JP Nagar's 3rd phase, and the driver was unable to provide any explanation or records for the money. The police seized the cash. Additionally, the Devanahalli police seized 500 fans, valued at Rs 5 lakh, from a goods vehicle that was travelling from Andhra Pradesh to Bangalore. The driver was unable to provide any documentation for the fans.
