BJP will get just 50 seats in Lok Sabha polls: Nitish Kumar

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar told his party's conclave on Saturday that he is devoting himself to drive BJP out by reducing it to just 50 seats in the next Lok Sabha polls.

To the JD( U) national executive meeting held in Patina, he told that the goal could be achieved only if all opposition parties fight together, and he said his goal is to unite the opposition.

Nitish Kumar is heading to Delhi on September 5 to meet political leaders from across parties to line up them against the BJP, according to India Today.

However the buzz is that JD(U) is all set to project Nitish Kumar as the prime ministerial face, which Kumar downplayed saying he is working to unite the opposition.

Only a couple of days before Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao visited Nitish Kumar and his deputy and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, calling for "BJP-mukt Bharat".

Rao evaded a question from the press about projecting Nitish Kumar as the opposition's prime ministerial candidate saying it will be decided by opposition parties together.

Nitish Kumar himself appeared annoyed at the question of choosing a consensus candidate for PM from the Opposition.

His latest statement about strengthening the opposition to pack off BJP comes ahead of his meeting with leaders in Delhi. He might be projecting himself as the saviour just as the rudderless opposition with no leadership or ideology groping in the dark.

Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar attacked the BJP after five of the six JD(U) MLAs in Manipur crossed over to the saffron party, asking "Is it proper, Is it constitutional? Is it in line with established norms?" JD(U) has been accusing the BJP of poaching its lawmakers.
