Welcoming the announcement of poll dates in the state, UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said that the BJP would return to power in the state with an 'overwhelming majority'.

"We welcome the festival of democracy. With the blessings of the people and on the basis of the double engine government's achievements, the BJP will form its government with an overwhelming majority," Yogi Adityanath tweeted in Hindi. Yogi is the BJP's CM candidate for the upcoming polls as well.

UP assembly polls shall be held in seven phases; February 10, February 14, February 20, February 23, February 27, March 3 and March 7.

The states of Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur will also go to the polls in the Feb 7- Mar 7 time period. The counting of votes in all five states shall be held on March 10.

The assembly polls are of great significance as they would also serve as a pre-runner to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and determine the fate of both the incumbent BJP and opposition parties, especially the Congress.
