BRS leader Kavitha sent to judicial custody in excise policy case

New Delhi: In a new develop in Delhi excise policy scam case, a Delhi court on Tuesday sent BRS leader K Kavitha to14-day judicial custody, Siasat reported.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja issued the order as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) did not seek for an extension of the BRS leader’s custodial interrogation.
Arrested on March 15 by the central probe agency, the 46-year-old was sent to seven-day ED custody on March 16, which was extended by three days on Saturday.
Kavitha’s advocate Nitesh Rana requested interim bail citing her minor son’s exam; however, the ED’s counsel countered it.
It is reported that her bail plea will be heard on April 1.
The ED stated that regarding interim and regular bail there are stringent provision under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Meanwhile, the BRS leader’s counsel sought permission to physically inspecting the documents that the agency submitted in a sealed cover under provisions 19 (2) of the PMLA.
The ED claimed that Kavitha was a key member of the ‘ South Group’ that allegedly paid AAP kickbacks of Rs 100 crore for liquour licences in Delhi, according to the report.
Kavitha is the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
