A controversial tweet allegedly made by singer Caralisa Monteiro calling for a "Hindu Free Indiaà" had gone viral on social networking sites prompting outrage. However, the singer has stepped forward to protest her innocence in the matter and has revealed that a case was filed regarding the matter.
"Every time a Hindu is killed, I get orgasmic pleasure. Modi might dream Congress Mukht Bharat but we will Hindu Mukht India soon. Amen!", the screenshot of the purported tweet by Monteiro reads.
However, the fact-checking cell of India Today has also come forward to debunk the tweet, noting that there were several discrepancies in the tweet, most notably the lack of likes and retweets bar as well as no name of the device that tweeted the statement.
"It is highly unlikely for a controversial tweet made by the verified handle of Monteiro, who has over 36.4K followers, to not get any likes or retweets," India Today's Anti Fake News War Room (AFNWR) reported. They also pointed out that no archiving sites showed a record of such a tweet being made.
"This is a fake tweet and will be reported. Not language I use. And not how I speak. Will formally lodge a complaint regarding this," Monteiro tweeted in response to the issue.
