Chandigrah : 92 of the 117 Assembly seats in Punjab were won by the Aam Aadmi Party in the second round of voting.

Aam Aadmi Party candidates have won most of the seats lost by prominent politicians, including former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and former Akali Dal chiefs.

Labh Singh Ugoke, 35 years old, who owned a mobile repair shop in his village and defeated the incumbent Chief Minister from the Bhadaur Assembly constituency.

Ugoke told NDTV he was confident of defeating Mr Channi. According to him, Mr Channi had lost touch with the voters in the constituency.

"Channi was never an aam aadmi. He did not work for the people when he was made the chief minister, hence people used the jaddu and moved him out," Mr Ugoke added.

Despite being perceived as a greenhorn, Mr. Ugoke believed he would win the seat.

"I had full confidence in the people of Bhaduar assembly. The people here did not want him to contest," he said.

Charanjit Singh Channi contested Bhadaur in addition to Chamkaur Sahib, his traditional seat.

The AAP candidate dethroned the outgoing Chief Minister by 7,942 votes.

Punjab witnessed a landslide victory for the AAP, with the AAP winning 92 of 117 Assembly seats, a feat only matched by the Akali Dal and BJP in 1997. The AAP's 92 Assembly seats matched the figure from that election.

Among the other winners were the Congress with 18, SAD with 3, the BJP with two and the BSP with one, and an Independent won one seat.

After the Delhi government led by Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP will now form its second government in the country.
