Chennai and nearby areas are warned to expect heavy to extremely heavy rainfall

On Thursday, over 100 mm of rainfall was recorded in several parts of Chennai and three nearby Tamil Nadu districts and is expected to continue for the next three days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported extremely heavy rains in Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu districts, as well as Chennai, from 8.30 a.m. to 7.45 p.m. Chennai's MRC Nagar had 198 millimeters of rain; Chennai Nungambakkam's AWS got 159.5 millimeters; YMCA Nandanam got 152 millimeters; Anna University 121 millimeters; ACS Medical college - 108.5 millimeters; Meenambakkam ISRO's AWS - 108 millimeters; Satyabhama University 58.5 millimeters; and Tirur KVK got 46.5 mm.

The IMD said, "in isolated areas of north coastal Tamil Nadu and adjacent areas of south coastal Andhra Pradesh, heavy to very rainfall activity is expected to continue for the next three days and decrease thereafter."
Over the next three days, there will be increased rainfall activity in south-east peninsular India, after which it will decrease. Heavy rainfall will fall in isolated areas along the coasts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Friday and Saturday, and in the south and southeast Andhra Pradesh from Sunday to January 1.
