Complex heart surgery in 3-year-old Yemeni child successfully completed at Metromed

Kozhikode: A three-year-old girl who came to Kozhikode from Yemen for treatment has successfully completed a rare heart surgery. The surgery for congenital heart defects tricuspid atresia and pulmonary atresia was performed at the Metromed International Cardiac Center (MICC) at Thondayad Bypass.
Where a heart needs four valves- two on the right and two on the left- the child had only two valves on the left. After other hospitals refused to conduct the complicated surgery, the child came to Kozhikode MetroMed International Cardiac Center for treatment, informed MD Dr PP Mohammad Mustafa. The complex surgery was performed under the guidance of pediatric cardiologists Dr MM Kamran and Dr Janeel Mustafa on November 27th. Dr Janil Mustafa informed that the child is recovering.
The hospital runs a pediatric treatment assistance scheme aimed at providing world-class state-of-the-art treatment facilities to ordinary children. According to hospital officials, free treatment will be provided to economically backward children with congenital heart defects under the scheme.
