Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the party's connection with the people of India has been broken. "The party has to accept the reality and work hard to reconnect". He was speaking on the concluding day of the Congress strategy meeting in Udaipur.

The Wayanad MP on Sunday announced that he will undertake a yatra in October to re-establish Congress' connection with the people and strengthen it. He added that the masses know that it is Congress that can lead the nation.

Acknowledging the shortcomings of the party, the former Congress president said there is no shortcut to reconnecting with the people. "The party will have to sweat it out". He added that party leaders need to spend months not one or two days among farmers and labourers.

He appealed to party workers to fight harder and asserted that he will fight along with them against the BJP. "I have never been corrupt. I haven't taken any money. And I am not scared and I will fight". The Gandhi scion spoke of the many challenges the Congress party is facing in a long speech and outlined a plan to revive it, reported NDTV.

He also acknowledged that the BJP is better at communicating with people. "Congress needs to reform our communication and connect with the people."

Addressing over 400 party members on the final day of Chintan Shivir, Rahul Gandhi launched an attack against the BJP and RSS by accusing them of being "totalitarian and dangerous" for India. He said Congress members can bluntly tell the leadership what they feel and hinted that the same cannot be said for the ruling party.

He accused the BJP of manipulating India's vital institutions like the judiciary and Election Commission and muzzling voices. Asserting Congress' role in uniting the people of India, he said it is the party's responsibility to make people realise they are being divided and it is not beneficial. "No one from any class or creed can say that Congress closed its doors on them."

Speaking of the current situation in the country, he noted India is a union of states and people must be allowed to have conversations. He termed conversation between people as the only alternative to the violence between people. The party leader alleged that various institutions of the country are facing systematic destruction. "The day this country's institutions stop working, we will be in serious trouble".
