New Delhi: The Congress leader Anand Sharma met BJP chief JP Nadda yesterday, causing speculations about his quitting the grand old party.

A member of the dissident Congress group "G-23", Sharma however tried to play down speculations, likening the meeting to a courtesy call.

His meeting with Nadda gains importance beyond courtesy call as it comes ahead of the Assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh, which is home to both leaders

Anand Sharma was elected to the Upper house of Parliament from Himachal Pradesh.

The rebel leader tried to put to rest speculations saying he has every right to meet the BJP chief.

He said further that Nadda is more than the BJP president to him as they are coming from the same state and share the same alma mater.

Being ideological opponents doesn't mean there's any personal division between us, he was quoted as saying.

The G-23 member is not happy with the functioning of the Congress leadership, which he publicly raised several times.

If sources are to be believed, the meeting also saw discussions on the political situation and equations of Himachal Pradesh.
