The Congress on Sunday held a mega 'Mehengai Hatao' (remove inflation) rally in Jaipur to take to masses the issues of hike in prices of petrol and diesel, vegetables and essential commodities in the country.

The programme was held at Vidyadhar Nagar stadium.

Speaking at the rally, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi attacked the Modi government and charged that the BJP government is selling what her party built in 70 years. She said when elections come, BJP leaders talk of China or other countries, casteism, communalism but not about the struggles of the people. "It is your responsibility to make the government accountable, it is your responsibility to ask why there is so much inflation", she said while addressing a national level rally against inflation here, PTI reported.

She also took a jibe at Narendra Modi and called him "our tourist Prime Minister". She alleged that he had the time "to roam the whole world but not to meet farmers who were 10 km away".

The general secretary of the All India Congress Committee alleged that the government is working for select industrialist friends instead of working for the good of the people and farmers of the country.

"Crores of rupees go into advertisements in Uttar Pradesh, but not for the welfare of the farmers. The central government does not want the welfare of the people. The government is only working for a few industrialists."

Rahul also launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Central government and said that 'Hindutvavadis' only want power and they are in power since 2014 and urged people to throw them out of power and bring back Hindus who follow the path of truth, ANI reported.

He went onto explain that someone who respects every religion and is scared of nobody can be termed as a Hindu and said that those currently in power are false Hindus.

The BJP had responded saying Rahul Gandhi and the Congress have a "pathological hatred" of Hinduism.

"It is in the character of the Congress and the Gandhi family to attack Hinduism at every opportunity... What they say is not a coincidence but an experiment. And the headmaster of this experimental lab is Rahul Gandhi," the BJP's Sambit Patra was quoted as saying by PTI.
