New Delhi: Congress leader and the party's women's wing chief Sushmita Dev has sent her resignation letter to party's interim chief Sonia Gandhi. The resignation comes two days after Dev met Sonia Gandhi and former party chief Rahul Gandhi along with the newly appointed Assam Congress team in the national capital.

Quoting sources a PTI report said that Dev may join the Trinamool Congress.

While Dev offered no reason for her quitting the party, leaders remained tight-lipped on the recent developments. Dev is daughter of former Union Minister late Santosh Mohan Dev. She was also a former MP from Assam's Silchar in 16th Loksabha and is also currently a national spokesperson of the Congress.

In her letter to Gandhi on Sunday, Dev said she is resigning from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress. She also said that she was beginning a "new chapter in my life of public service". Dev has also changed her Twitter bio to a former member of the party and former chief of the Mahila Congress.

"I cherish my three-decade long association with the Indian National Congress...I hope I have your good wishes as I begin a new chapter in my life of public service," she said in the letter.

Her Twitter account was also temporarily blocked last week after she shared Rahul Gandhi's picture with the parents of the nine-year-old victim of alleged rape and murder in Delhi.

Ahead of the Assam assembly polls, there were rumors that Dev was quitting the party. However, she rejected the charges of leaving the party then. In the last few days, Assam Congress has been witnessing desertions.
