COVID-19: India reports 27,553 new cases, 284 deaths in 24 hrs

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced on Sunday that India has registered 27,553 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. With 284 new deaths, the total death toll has climbed to 4,81,770. The active caseload of 1,22,801 constitutes 0.35 per cent of the country's total positive cases. Furthermore, 1,525 cases of Omicron have been reported across 23 states in the country thus far. 560 of them, however, have been discharged.

With 9,249 patients having recovered in the last 24 hours, the cumulative tally of those recovered has increased to 3,42,84,561. India's recovery rate presently stands at 98.27 per cent. With the sudden surge in new cases, the weekly positivity rate has jumped to 1.35 per cent and the daily positivity rate to 2.55 per cent.

On the vaccination front, 25,75,225 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours. With this, Covid inoculation coverage in India reached 145.44 crores on Sunday morning. As per the Ministry, over 19.81 crore balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the states and the UTs to be administered.
