COVID-19: Karnataka reports highest daily surge with over 48,000 cases

Karnataka, on Friday, reported 48,296 new coronavirus cases, the highest-ever daily surge in the state, and 217 deaths. The capital city of Bengaluru reported 26,756 new cases, taking the total number of active cases in the city to over 2.5 lakhs. The positivity rate in the state now stands at 25 per cent.

Karnataka is currently under lockdown till May 12 and facing a severe shortage of beds, medicines and vaccines. Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Friday added that the state would not be able to start vaccinations for the 18-45 age group tomorrow due to the shortage of vaccine supply.
