Covid-19 updates: India records 16,561 new cases; 49 deaths

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry updated on Friday that India reported a marginal rise in daily Covid-19 positive cases, with 16,561 new infections in the last 24 hours, while it was 16,299 on Thursday, IANS reported.

The country also reported 49 Covid-19 related deaths on Friday, taking the cumulative death count to 5,26,928.

The active caseload, however, went down slightly to 1,23,535 cases, accounting for 0.28 per cent of the total positive cases. After 18,053 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, the cumulative recovery reached 4,35,73,094. India's recovery now stands at 98.53 per cent.

On Friday, the daily positivity rate reached 5.44 per cent, and the weekly Positivity Rate was 4.88 per cent. A total of 3,04,189 tests were conducted across the country, increasing the overall tally to over 87.95 crores in the past day.

The vaccination drive in India had covered more than 207.47 crores as of Friday morning via 2,75,59,030 sessions. Over 3.96 crore adolescents have been administered a first dose of Covid-19 jab since the beginning of the vaccination drive for this age bracket.
