"We did a study where we wanted to know which sub-variant has the highest transmission. We analysed data from 90 samples in August and found that more than half of the patients were infected with BA 2.75. It is the leading cause of transmission and it spreads faster," he told ANI.

Haryana has recorded 20,000 cases and 23 fatalities in the past month. NCR districts are the worst hit. Gurugram recorded the most number of cases and Faridabad has also seen a jump.

The active cases comprise 0.26% of the total infections. A decrease of 2,403 cases has been recorded in the active caseload in a span of 24 hours. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.54%, the ministry said.
