Covid update: 18,257 new cases and 42 deaths

India recorded 18,257 new Covid-19 cases and 42 related fatalities yesterday.

The Union Health Ministry data on Sunday showed that the tally rose to 4,36,22,651. And the death toll has increased to 5,25,428.

The active cases have increased to 1,28,690. It comprises 0.30% of the total infections. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.22% and the weekly positive rate is at 4.08%.

The number of people who recovered from the infection increased to 4,29,68,533. The national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.51%.

The ministry data showed that 198.76 crore doses of the Covid vaccine have been administered so far.

On July 6, a statement from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that the Union Government is committed to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of Covid-19 vaccination throughout the country. The nationwide Covid-19 vaccination started on 16th January 2021. The new phase of universalization of the Covid-19 vaccination commenced on June 21, 2021.

It further said the vaccination drive has been ramped up through the availability of more vaccines, advanced visibility of vaccine availability to States and UTs for enabling better planning by them and streamlining the vaccine supply chain.
