Bahraich: A mob assaulted a Dalit man in the Hardia area of Bahraich district for allegedly stealing a toilet seat.

The visuals of assault show a man with blackened face and tonsured head being tied to a pole.

Rajesh Kumar, who is a daily wager, was seen thrashed by a cheering crowd, according to a report in India Today.

Rather than turning him in to police, the mob went on assaulting him shaving off a portion of his eyebrow and mustache aside from tonsuring his head.

Police have registered case against three residents of Kotia village on charges of assault and criminal intimidation.

They will face charges of crimes against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

A local BJP leader Radheshyam Mishra and his aides Renu Vajpai and Rakesh Tiwari have been identified as involved in the assault.
