Delhi farmer who sent workers home on flight during Covid dies by suicide

New Delhi: The mushroom farmer who got nationwide attention after sending his workers home to Bihar on a plane during covid crisis allegedly kills himself.

Pappan Singh Gehlot, 55, emerged as a saviour for his workers as they were struggling to reach home during the migrant crisis, buying them flight tickets.

A Delhi-based farmer allegedly died by suicide at his home in Tigi Pur village of Outer North Delhi on Tuesday evening.

Police said the farmer was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a temple in front of his house in the national capital. A suicide note recovered reportedly stated 'illness' as the reason for his suicide.

Gehlot's generous help to workers made actress Madhuri Dixit read the story about his charity on a radio show.

Gehlot bought workers air tickers after his attempts to send workers home to Bihar in train failed.

Gehlot is survived by his wife and a daughter.
