Mumbai: Uddhav Thackery who lost the name and symbol of his party asserted that the election commission should be dissolved.

Thackery whose faction of Shiv Sena, originally founded by his father Bal Thackeray, on Monday said people should choose election commissioners, according to NDTV.

The former Maharashtra Chief Minister, who challenged the EC’s decision in the Supreme Court, said there was not a single instance of the party name and symbol going to one faction.

Thackeray emotionally told reporters despite everything had been stolen from him, ‘the other faction’ cannot take away the Thackeray name, adding that he was lucky to be born to the family of Balasaheb Thackeray.

Accusing the BJP of destroying democracy using democratic institutions, he said if it continues there will not be any democracy or election in the country after 2024.

Thackeray, who was accused by Shinde faction of abandoning Hindutva, said he had never left it.Thackeray ended his decades-old alliance with the BJP in 2019.

‘I never left Hindutva, whoever is a Hindu should speak up now,’ NDTV quoted him as saying.

Thackeray, taking on the Election Commission, said that EC should have waited for the Supreme Court verdict regarding the disqualification of MLAs.
